What does the idiom “Jack of All Trades” mean?

Definition:

A person with a wide variety of skills

For example:

“He’s a jack of all trades—he’ll fix your car and then come in and program your computer.”

Notes:

“Jack of all trades, master of none” is also used, particularly in the UK, to suggest that although a person’s skills are numerous, they are superficial.
