What does the idiom “Sleep with the Fishes” mean?
Definition:
Dead, often by murder
For example:
“Rocco tried to siphon money off from the Mob for himself. Now he sleeps with the fishes.”
Notes:
This is gangster lingo, in which “fishes” is plural even though the usual plural is “fish.” By now this is rather old-fashioned.
