What does the idiom “Spare The Rod And Spoil The Child” mean?
Definition:
It is necessary to physically punish children in order to raise them right.
For example:
“Marlena is to permissive with her children. Spare the rod and spoil the child, I say.”
Notes:
This is a proverb. It’s rather old-fashioned now; child development authorities consider whipping physical abuse.
