What does the expression “throw shade” mean?
Definition: publicly criticize, insult, or express contempt for someone
Example: The rivalry between the two rappers has intensified, with each regularly throwing shade at the other in recent months.
Note: This is of African American origin but is becoming more widely used. It is still primarily North American.
